Registered Civil Engineer (1980), Nicola Maiellaro started his activity within the Faculty of Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari, where he contributed to the start-up of "Computer Aided Design & Computer Graphics" Lab at the Architecture and Town Planning Institute and established the "A.R.CO. - Applications and Research COmputer Aided Design" Cooperation Lab, covering managerial and operative roles.
In 1984 he entered the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) as researcher in the field of ICT applications for the built environment; at present he is Research Director and Head of Suvey and Enhancement of Built Environment Unit at the Construction Technologies Institute, heading the branch of Bari.
Since 2005 he has gained EU (mainly INTERREG) financing for many research projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams in Italy, Greece, Albania, Bosnia, Montenegro, focusing on interactive multimedia maps and virtual tools applied to the enhancement of Cultural Heritage.
He is also project evaluator for Ministries, Regions and Provinces.
